Pebblebed Vineyards

Ebford Vineyards first wine was from the Community Vineyard in 2002.  This was named Dodo Tree after a "Dodo" looking tree on the skyline of the vineyard.  The wine was well received and both the 2002 and 2003 wines won awards.

The first commercial vintage of Pebblebed Rosé 2004 caused a sensation when it was a surprise winner of a prestigious Gold Medal in the English and Welsh Wine of the Year Competition, one of only a handful of Gold Medals presented. As a result, there was a considerable demand for the wine and it quickly sold out.

The 2005 vintage also won a number of awards at local and national competitions.  The Rosé was well received and sold out early in 2006 partly as a result of a very warm early summer particularly suitable for rosé  drinking!  Our Pebblebed dry white won a bronze medal in the South West Competition judged to be one of the best wines in the Region. 

Our 2006 Rose and White have been approved as Regional Wines and the Rose won a highly Commended award at the recent national wine competition.  The Rose also won the Montagu trophy for the best presented wine in the UK.

In the 2008 Uk Awards our Sparkling Rose 2006 and our 2007 still rose won prestigious Bronze Medals.  This demonstrates consistent quality of our wines.

We have a small amount of our 2008 rose remaining and look forward to the release of our 2009 wines (a dry white and rose) at the end of May and we will release our new Sparkling from the 2008 vintage at the same time. 

Pebblebed wines aim for a steely, minerally character that is above all light and fresh. The wines are relatively moderate in alcohol compared to heavier, fuller examples from the New World and this is a positive advantage: you can enjoy them most happily and sensibly. Organic production of the grapes (for the rose) results in very natural wines that are clean and exhilarating.

New 2009 wines launched! - we are very pleased with both our 2009 white and rose - great summer drinking! and a match for any imported wines for lunchtime early evening or aperitivo wines.

Pebblebed White 2009 - Bronze Medal Winner - Made from 100% Madeleine Angevine grapes grown by ourselves and from one other vineyard nearby in the Exe Valley.  Fermented dry but with considerable fruit - its been described as an english version of a Malborough Sauvignon.

Pebblebed Rose 2009 - Bronze Medal Winner - Made from our own organically grown Seyval Blanc and Rondo grapes.  This is our "flagship" wine - fermented dry but again with good fruit and a hint of a caramel finish - matching in my opinion a great Provence rose! but from Devon.

Pebblebed Rosé 2008 -  Our characteristic dry rose is crisp with fruit notes.  Enjoy as an aperitive or with shellfish, fish or light meat dishes and for al fresco drinking. Made from a selection of classic english varieties. 

Pebblebed Sparkling Rosé  - SILVER MEDAL WINNER - This is our first sparkling vintage.  The wine was released at the Exeter Festival where it was used to launch the South West Twinning with Tuscany.  At the festival we joined with Bigbury Bay Oysters in a very successful Devon Champagne and Oyster Bar. 

Seyval and Rondo organically grown grapes carefully selected and picked one week earlier than the main 2006 harvest.  Made by the Traditional Methode with 24 months on lees.  The sparkling wine is dry with good upfront fruit and a long finish. 1200 bottles released.  Sorry now sold out but we have more now in bottle for release May 2011.

We are delighted with our first "bubbly" and have had a fantastic response from both the public at the festival and from wine experts in a tasting in London.
